A Strong Start: Nurturing Young Minds
At Lomagundi Schools, our Foundation Phase lays the groundwork for a lifelong love of learning. Designed for children from age 2 to 7 (Todd Squad to Grade 2), this phase focuses on holistic development, nurturing each child’s academic, social, emotional, and physical growth in a warm and engaging environment.
We follow the Cambridge Early Years Curriculum and use a structured yet flexible, play-based approach. Our goal is to ensure that every child develops confidence, curiosity, and essential skills that will carry them through their educational journey.
Todd Squad (Age 2–3)
Our youngest learners begin their journey through fun and purposeful play.
- Social development is encouraged through group interaction and sharing.
- Children begin expanding their spoken English and vocabulary.
- Toilet training and personal hygiene habits are gently introduced.
ECD A (Age 3–4)
This class offers a rich, play-based learning environment where children continue building their social, cognitive, and motor skills.
- Gross motor development through running, climbing, and movement activities.
- Fine motor development with painting, cutting, sorting, and building.
- Language development through stories, songs, and interactive discussions.
- Creativity and exploration foster curiosity and early problem-solving.
- Children begin to “make their mark” on paper, progressing from scribbles to purposeful drawings.
ECD B (Age 4–5)
Children in ECD B build on the skills developed in ECD A and prepare for more structured learning.
- Advanced motor coordination supports pre-writing through posture and core strength.
- Listening and comprehension improve through group activities and storytelling.
- Early literacy and numeracy are introduced through Letterland and Numberland.
- Creative expression continues with a variety of media like charcoal, sand, water, and crafts.
- Pre-academic readiness includes pre-reading, pre-number, and pre-writing tasks to ease the transition to Grade 1.
Grade 1 (Age 5–6)
In Grade 1, formal learning begins in earnest, with a strong foundation in reading, writing, and numeracy.
- Phonics-based reading and writing using clear sound-letter correspondence.

- Clear spoken and written communication through storytelling and structured writing tasks.
