We implement progressive assessments that monitor individual growth while encouraging a love for learning. These assessments are structured to help each child develop confidence, independence, and a sense of achievement. At Lomagundi College Primary School, we are committed to providing an enriching academic experience that balances intellectual growth with emotional and social development. Our comprehensive curriculum, expert educators, and supportive learning environment ensure that every child embarks on a journey of success, confidence, and lifelong learning.
Building Strong Foundations
In Grade 1 and 2, we establish the essential building blocks of literacy and numeracy through an engaging and structured approach. We introduce formal reading and writing using the highly acclaimed Letterland and Numberland schemes, laying a solid foundation for language and mathematical skills that extend through to Grade 7.
At this early stage, we prioritize continuous assessment over formal exams, allowing young learners to develop at their own pace. Teachers assess classwork and provide detailed reports each term, ensuring individualized feedback for parents. Our child-centered approach fosters confidence and enthusiasm for learning, creating a strong academic base while nurturing creativity and social skills.
Expanding Knowledge and Skills
The Intermediate Phase focuses on expanding subject knowledge while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Core subjects follow the Ministry of Education syllabus, delivered by highly trained class teachers who understand the developmental needs of this age group. Specialist subjects, including Music, Shona, Computers, and Physical Education, are taught by dedicated professionals to provide a well-rounded education.
Formal examinations are introduced in Grade 3, taking place twice a year in June and November. These assessments help track academic progress and identify areas where additional support may be needed. We utilize specialist assessments such as the Schonell and Vernon Schemes to measure spelling, reading, comprehension, and mathematical proficiency, ensuring each child is on the right academic path.
Beyond academics, we encourage experiential learning opportunities, such as the Grade 4 overnight camping trip to Kuimba Shiri, fostering independence and teamwork while instilling a love for the natural world.
Preparing for the Future
The final years of primary school are dedicated to preparing students for high school and beyond. Our curriculum aligns with internationally recognized qualifications, including the ZIMSEC and Cambridge IGCSE pathways, ensuring our students meet global academic standards.
Students undertake structured assessments, including formal examinations, to evaluate their readiness for secondary education. These exams provide valuable insights into their strengths and areas for improvement, equipping them with essential skills for future academic success.
Beyond the classroom, we emphasize leadership development, independence, and critical thinking. Our students are encouraged to take on responsibilities, participate in extracurricular activities, and engage in community initiatives, fostering well-rounded individuals prepared for the challenges ahead.
Ensuring Every Child Thrives

Our remedial teacher offers one-on-one support for students struggling with core subjects, while the National Institute of Learning Development (NILD) program provides specialized educational therapy to address learning difficulties.
We believe in a strengths-based approach, working to reinforce areas of difficulty while nurturing each child’s unique talents. With continuous assessments and a compassionate learning environment, we empower students to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
