The Technical Department at Lomagundi College is dedicated to providing a world-class education that combines practical skills with academic excellence. With access to City & Guilds certifications, advanced vocational training, and technical subject mastery, our students are well-equipped to pursue university degrees, polytechnic diplomas, or direct entry into skilled professions. Our commitment to technical education ensures that Lomagundi College remains at the forefront of innovation, preparing students for the ever-evolving demands of global industries.
Diverse Technical Subject Offerings
Our Technical Department offers a structured pathway for students interested in engineering, design, manufacturing, and other technical fields. Our courses include:
- Design and Technology: Offered at IGCSE level, this subject introduces students to design principles, material sciences, and manufacturing techniques. It serves as a foundation for careers in engineering, industrial design, and architecture.
- Metal Technology and Design: Covering essential workshop technology, students gain hands-on experience in bench work, machining, forging, and product manufacturing. Students who achieve a B grade or higher at ‘O’ Level can advance to the City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering Course, opening doors to higher diplomas and university degrees worldwide.
- Technical Graphics and Technical Drawing: Fundamental for students pursuing careers in architecture, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering, this course builds proficiency in technical drawing, orthographic projections, and design visualization. After ‘O’ Level, students with high grades can progress to A-Level Technical Drawing, specializing in Geometrical and Mechanical Drawing or Geometrical and Building Drawing.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD): Currently offered through AUTODESK, this program equips students with essential digital design skills required for engineering and technical careers. CAD certifications are an industry standard for engineering and architectural disciplines.
- Wood Technology and Design: This subject introduces students to workshop safety, hand tools, and practical woodwork projects. Students can advance to post ‘O’ Level Vocational Courses in Wood Machining and Cabinet Making, examined by HEXCO.
City & Guilds is a globally recognized accreditation body providing skills-based qualifications that prepare students for career advancement and workplace readiness. At Lomagundi College, we offer City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering as well as National Foundation Certificate in Machine Shop Engineering. These programs provide a clear pathway for students to enter polytechnic institutions and universities worldwide, progressing towards higher diplomas and degrees in mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering.
City & Guilds also works in partnership with employers to bridge the skills gap, ensuring that students graduate with industry-relevant expertise. Their certifications open doors to technical careers in fields such as manufacturing, industrial design, and engineering technology.
Specialist Technical Courses and Industry Training
Beyond traditional technical subjects, we offer specialized vocational training to enhance practical expertise:
- Professional Industrial Welding Courses: In partnership with the Welding Skills Centre (Harare), we provide GAS, ARC, MIG, and TIG welding courses, certified by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe. Many of our graduates have successfully obtained coded welder qualifications, paving the way for employment in industrial and construction sectors.
- Hexco Vocational Certifications: Our students can undertake National Foundation and National Certificate levels in various technical disciplines, including machining, fabrication, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
Through these programs, students develop real-world skills, enhancing their employability and preparing them for both higher education and industry placements.
